How to Keep Necklaces from Tangling

Yesterday I spent about 30 minutes untangling 4 necklaces that had become intertwined with earrings and charms in my necklace box.

It was a mess!

I wish I had taken a picture of it.  But here is the final result of my hard work.

After untangling it all, I was determined to come up with an idea to keep it from happening again.

So, here it is!

Very summery don't you think?!

I started with the only straws I had around my house.  They happened to be umbrella straws from Target that I had left over from my friend's Luau Engagement Party.

Just for kicks, here we are two years ago without even the thought of Little Bug!

See the straws?  They were a hit!

To make these, I first measured the length of my necklace and cut the straw accordingly.

Then I threaded one end of the necklace through the straw.

Then clasped the necklace together!

This is the way I would travel with my new necklace holders.  Umbrella closed and straw unbent.

BUT, to display them, I put the umbrella up and bend the bendy part of the straw!

You can display them all in one glass.

Or, make a line of them with cute little bud vases (of which, I only had one - so imagine with me).

No more tangled mess!  Each necklace has a home of it's own - a pretty cute one I think!

How do you keep your necklaces from tangling?

  1. I use a shallow flat drawer for all my jewelry and inside are many inexpensive ice cube trays. Each necklace or set of earrings, etc. has it's own little compartment in one of the many ice cube trays. So far, none of the necklaces has become tangled up on itself, as long as I put it in it's "cubie-hole" fastened.
