Today's News in Status Updates

I've been debating whether or not to blog about this.
But, I feel that it is SUCH a moment in history.
Something many Americans never thought would happen.
And now it's here.

Osama Bin Laden is dead.

Thanks to Facebook, I realized what was going on this morning.
{don't judge me that I get most of my news from Facebook}

There are a range of different reactions to the events.
I thought I'd post a few status updates that were on my News Feed this morning.
Some you may agree with.
Some you may strongly hate.
Others may cause you to think.
Or challenge your worldview.

Read them.
Think about them.
Examine your heart.
That's all I ask.

That last one cracked me up!
It's honestly what I first thought when I read some of the articles on how it was done, too!
Good 'ol 24 :)
{the tv show for those who have no idea who Jack Bauer is.  Google it.}

Which one of those statuses resonated most with you?

  1. Honestly, my first thought was, "Well, he's finding out right about now that he's not getting any virgins!"

    The Lord has killed many wicked people throughout the scriptures. The story of Noah, for example! God wiped out nearly the entire earth's population because of wickedness. I definitely think the death of Osama bin Laden was guided by the hand of God and happened at this time for a very specific reason (of which I, nor anyone, knows yet). I think this is completely justified, given the circumstances, though it is sad that we have to resort to killing each other to solve our problems. I think this will give many MANY people closure from 9/11. And yes, I think they will retaliate.

  2. Thanks for posting this. I'm still wrestling a bit with my thoughts. I do think we should rejoice when evil is destroyed, but true justice can only come from God. It's hard to wrap my mind and heart around it all. I love your sensitivity to Him :)

  5. I have been at conflict with my friend's posts over this. I have the same feeling as the 2nd post on your blog. I am thankful for a God who loves everyone equally. I am sad for those lives lost on 9/11. I am hopeful that maybe we've started a new chapter (or at least a new page) in this war. I am nervous about the possibility of more terrorist attacks and the future of my child's world. I am prayerful that we, as believers, will react with love and not hatred. I am blessed, and I am a proud American. There are many conflicting emotions, but there ya go...

  7. After wrestling for most of the day with my own emotions in regards to the news of Osama bin Laden's death. Wondering, do I rejoice that such an evil oppressor and terrorist is gone or am I saddened by the loss of yet another human life, formed in the image of God, and an enemy I am commanded to love, who Christ also died for? Wondering if this could possibly be more gray than black and white, more of a both/and reaction, I found this article which helped sort out this tension I was feeling: http://www.desiringgod.org/blog/posts/is-god-glad-osama-bin-ladens-dead?fb_ref=at_xt%3D4dbf655a37b047cb_0&fb_source=home_oneline .
